PAID PRODUCTION ASSISTANT POSITION - CALL OUT FOR CREATIVES WITH DISABILITIES OR LONG-TERM HEALTH CONDITIONS Following on from their tour of award winning show ‘ A Quick Guide to Ruining Your Life,’ Not Norman are researching and developing their next show, directed by Megan Marie Griffith. It is an auto-biographical piece of theatre about living life alongside family members/partners/close friends with alcohol dependency. We're looking for a motivated individual to support the R&D process. The position includes mentoring support such that you do not necessarily have to have any previous experience in this role. The following are examples of potential tasks but these will be tailored to individual skill sets and access requirements: - Assistant Director duties - Social media posts documenting the rehearsal process - Setting up the room for rehearsals - Sourcing equipment/props - Typing up notes from the day - Transcribing audio - Digital admin such as uploading, editing and distributing files. - Printing scripts
The salary is £935 following guidance from BECTU. This is calculated as two full time weeks spread across five weeks at two days a week in January and February. It is inclusive of holiday pay. In addition to the above pay, we have an access budget to cover any access requirements such as travel, or assistance. We are particularly keen to recruit a creative with a disability or a candidate from across the other protected characteristics; please let us know that you meet this criteria. It would be an added bonus (but not a requirement) if you have your own experience of having family members/partners/close friends with alcohol dependency and feel comfortable to hear stories about this and perhaps to share your own. We have bespoke wellbeing sessions available to support all members of the team with this. Rehearsals will take place in person in central Manchester. We will be following all government guidance on social distancing and Covid-19 safety throughout the process.
We currently imagine this role to be in the room with us during rehearsals, but if you are shielding during the pandemic, please let us know as there may be a way to re-imagine the role to provide more support with rehearsal preparation leading up to and in between rehearsals.
Our director, Megan Marie Griffith is the Artistic Director and Executive Producer of Girl Gang Manchester - a "collective of female artists, activists, academics and party instigators who produce accessible, fun and meaningful events with masses of passion and creative flair." They produce a variety of ambitious large-scale collaborative events. Megan will provide bespoke mentoring to ensure the candidate has a productive and meaningful experience, tailored to their interests.

PAID CASTING CALL for actors/theatre-makers
Following on from ‘Not Norman’s’ award winning ‘ A Quick Guide to Ruining Your Life,’ Not Norman are researching and developing their next show, Adult Children, directed by Megan Marie Griffith.
It is an auto-biographical piece of theatre about living life alongside family members, close friends or partners with alcohol dependency. We’re looking for actors with their own experiences of family members/close friends/partners with alcohol dependency who are willing to share their stories and explore this theme.
Originally inspired by a week’s R&D in response to the question, “how do we make autobiographical work safely?” as part of the Royal Exchange’s REACT project, the wellbeing of the creative team will be paramount during this process, with allocated budget and time to attend to this.
We will be combining info from academic research and focus groups with our own experiences to create the piece. The R&D will be using physical theatre, verbatim, film and spoken word.
To reflect a wider breadth of experience in the room, we are looking for actors who are (definitely)
People of East or Southern Asian heritage (our current creative team is all white) People of African or Caribbean heritage (our current creative team is all white) Any gender- including gender nonconforming, non-binary or transgender (our current actors are male and female) Have lived experience of the topic
Ideally/further information Ideally older or younger than 30-35 (our current creative team are all within this age bracket.) We welcome applicants with disabilities
The salary is using Equity weekly rates as well as holiday pay. The total fee including holiday pay is £1641.90 in addition to a £74.10 pension contribution. This represents…. An initial kick off rehearsal in January, 2 days rehearsal for 5 weeks from mid January to mid February, as well as reflecting time spent on tasks such as short writing tasks between rehearsals.
Other information
Rehearsals will take place in central Manchester. There will be a sharing to industry professionals. This was originally due to take place at the Royal Exchange who have been supporting the project however this may need to be adapted due to Covid. In addition to the above pay, we have an access budget to cover any access requirements.
